The New Course on Maltese Language and Culture — where to take the I Belong prerequisite

The Human Rights Directorate’s I Belong Programme page states:

“Prospective participants are encouraged to enrol in the New Course on Maltese Language and Culture developed under the Malta Labour Migration Policy framework. The updated list of delivering institutions can be accessed here. This course remains a requirement for participation in I Belong Cultural Orientation at 100-hours course.”

This is a prerequisite course, not the 100-hour Cultural Orientation course. Finishing it lets you apply for that course. See how to apply once you hold the certificate.

This table copies Jobsplus’s “List of Approved Providers updated on 15th June 2026”, the file the Directorate’s “here” link opens. It names 27 providers, approved between 6 April and 11 June 2026. The date column shows when each was added.

No official page gives a fee, length, MQF level or way to enrol for this course (checked 2026-08-26). Providers can differ, so ask each one:

• How much does it cost, and what does the price include (books, exam, certificate)?
• When does the next course start, and on which days and times?
• How many hours is it, and over how many weeks?
• Is it in a classroom or online? Where is the classroom?
• Which language does the teacher use to explain?
• Will my certificate name the “New Course on Maltese Language and Culture”?
• How soon after the course do I get the certificate?
• What happens if I miss a class or do not pass?

Ask for the answers in writing, by email or on the provider’s own page, before you pay.

The Directorate also says: “Successful completion of I Belong Cultural Orientation at 100-hours is considered one of the requirements for Long-Term Residence Status (LTR) in Malta.” So the path is: this prerequisite certificate, then the I Belong 100-hour Cultural Orientation course, which is one of the requirements for Long-Term Residence status. If Long-Term Residence is your goal, budget for all three steps.

• Your school is not on the list. Its certificate may not be accepted for the 100-hour course. Check the Directorate’s current list before you enrol.
• No places at your chosen school. Ask another provider on the list. Approval on a date does not mean a school has places now.
• You lost your certificate. Ask the provider that taught you for a copy.
